The new Tim Burton show Wednesday just came out on Netflix, and it has already broken a record set by The Addams Family.
In the comedy series, Jenna Ortega plays the only daughter of the Addams Family. She goes to Nevermore Academy.
Wednesday has a lot on her plate between learning to use her new psychic abilities and solving the mystery that her parents were caught up in 25 years ago. Despite this, she still managed to make the spin-off the most popular Addams Family show to date. Pretty impressive.
Even though critics have had a lot of different things to say about the show so far, Netflix users love it so much that they gave it an 88 percent fan score on Rotten Tomatoes.
That’s the best score any Addams Family movie has ever gotten on the website that ranks movies.
The supernatural family was first seen as a cartoon in the New Yorker, but the first time it was shown on TV was in 1964.
Even though it only ran for two seasons, it was a big part of pop culture for a long time because it was shown over and over again.
The Addams Family was revived in 1992 and 1998, but none of the three TV shows have been reviewed on Rotten Tomatoes.
But after the TV shows, there were five movies about the Addams Family, and they all had pretty average ratings.
First, there were three live-action movies: The Addams Family, which got a 66 percent rating; Addams Family Values, which got a 63 percent rating; and Addams Family Reunion, which got a shocking 33 percent rating in 1998.
In recent years, there have been two animated movies about the Addams family: The Addams Family in 2019 and The Addams Family 2 in 2021. Fans gave both movies a score of 69 percent.
That makes Wednesday, a spin-off series from Tim Burton, the winner with a score of 88 percent. It also has a great critics’ rating of 72 percent.
Even so, the reviews were still very different.
If CW dramas are your jam, you might like Wednesday,
wrote one unimpressed critic.
I was mostly bored and found the plot machinations predictable.
On the other end of the scale, someone else thought:
Tim Burton strike the perfect chord with the positive yet creepy tone, and Jenna Ortega shines as the dead-pan heroine.
Luiz Guzman plays Gomez Addams, Catherine Zeta-Jones plays Morticia, and Fred Armisen plays Uncle Fester in the new show.
Is it, however, the best adaptation of The Addams Family we’ve ever seen?
Wednesday is now on Netflix and can be streamed.
