On Thursday, Target Corp along with Walmart Inc and LaRose Industries which is importer of toys were all sued.
The Attorney General of New York, Barbara Underwood stated that this was because of the sale of toys for children which contained lead.
The lawsuit has been filed in the state court of New York which is located in Albany.
The lawsuit is over the jewellery making kit called “Cra-Z-Jewelz. These are imported by LaRose and are then sold by Target as well as Walmart.
According to the complaint that has been filed, as per the tests which were conducted by the office of the attorney general discovered that the level of lead in the kits was about 10 times higher than what is stated as the federal limit.
Despite the part that later the kits were recalled, according to the complaint the companies associated had failed to take apt measures that would have ensured that these companies do not again get such toys imported or even distribute or sell such toys, which put in danger the health of the children of New York because of the exposure to lead.
The lawsuit will be seeking penalties for each of the “Cra-Z-Jewelz” kit which the companies sought for selling in the market of New York, which ranges collectively from $70 to $6,000.
The lawsuit will also direct LaRose as well as Target to implement a control program so as to check the quality for the manufacturing operation operating overseas along with the testing programs for the lead levels only.
The lawsuit will also be seeking separate orders which will be directing that as retailers, Walmart as well as Target make sure to confirm the compliance certificates for the toys that are to be imported to New York for the purpose of sale as well as organize a testing program for the lead levels.
