The Green Bay Packers have already sparked excitement this offseason with significant acquisitions like safety Xavier McKinney and running back Josh Jacobs. But as the NFL Draft fades in the rearview mirror and training camp looms ahead, Green Bay Packers should still address a few key areas to bolster its roster. Here are three strategic moves the Packers can make to ensure a successful season.
1. Secure the Secondary – Add a Veteran Cornerback
Green Bay Packers is stacked at cornerback, but experience could be their Achilles’ heel. Outside of Jaire Alexander, a two-time Pro Bowler, the cornerback lineup is rife with question marks. Eric Stokes, a 2021 first-rounder, is still searching for consistency after missing most of 2023 due to injury.
Rookie standout Carrington Valentine showed promise but still needs polish. Meanwhile, veteran Corey Ballentine has yet to make a significant impact.
Relying heavily on this crew, especially with Alexander’s injury history, leaves the Packers vulnerable. Although seventh-round draft pick Kalen King could add depth, a seasoned veteran would provide stability and leadership. A savvy, battle-tested cornerback could ease the pressure on Green Bay’s young secondary, bringing reliability to the defensive backfield.
2. Find a Sure-Handed Veteran Wide Receiver
While Green Bay has invested heavily in their wide receiver corps through the draft, relying solely on young talent may be risky. Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs are expected to lead the group, but beyond them, the roster consists of only second-year players: Jayden Reed, Dontayvion Wicks, Bo Melton, and Malik Heath.

Watson’s impressive rookie season was marred by a hamstring injury, raising concerns about depth. Although Doubs and Reed admirably filled in, adding a seasoned wideout like Russell Gage or DeAndre Carter would complement the Packers’ offensive arsenal. Their experience would provide a safety net for quarterback Jordan Love and help guide the youthful receiving corps.
3. Strengthen the Trenches – Add Offensive Line Depth
The Green Bay Packers offensive line is entering the season with uncertainty after the departures of David Bakhtiari and Jon Runyan. First-rounder Jordan Morgan is expected to handle left tackle duties, while Sean Rhyan steps into the right guard role. At center, Josh Myers will be backed up by rookie fifth-round pick Jacob Monk.
Given the crucial role of protecting quarterback Jordan Love, bolstering the offensive line is vital. Adding a versatile veteran lineman would fortify the unit, allowing Love the time needed to progress and make smart plays.
Green Bay Packers Focus on Roster Improvement
In the fiercely competitive NFL, strategic roster moves can make or break a team’s season. For the Green Bay Packers, securing a veteran cornerback, finding an experienced wide receiver, and adding offensive line depth are crucial steps toward solidifying their promising roster. By addressing these needs, Green Bay Packers can continue its offseason momentum and gear up for a strong training camp and beyond.
