Greg Cosell, an analyst for NFL Matchup, shared insight from an unnamed NFL coach on The Ross Tucker Podcast I spoke to one coach who has been in the NFL for 30 years who had Adonai Mitchell #3 on his board ahead of Odunze…
.
With Odunze going ninth overall to the Chicago Bears, Mitchell’s ranking ahead of him raised eyebrows. Though he was the 11th receiver taken, his unique combination of size, speed, and athleticism left scouts salivating over his potential.
Adonai Mitchell’s Promising Path
In his sole season with the Longhorns, Mitchell delivered an impressive 55 receptions for 845 yards and 11 touchdowns as the secondary option to Xavier Worthy.
Despite the strong performance, he remained under the radar compared to other top prospects. Mitchell began his college career at Georgia, but an injury-shortened sophomore year led him to transfer to Texas.
At 6-foot-2 and 205 pounds, Mitchell has the physical stature NFL teams crave, and his 4.34-second 40-yard dash at the Scouting Combine in February solidified his stock. NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein compared him to Pittsburgh Steelers standout George Pickens, giving Colts fans reason for excitement.

Joining a Strong Receiver Corps
Mitchell joins a Colts receiving unit that already includes Michael Pittman Jr., Josh Downs, and Alec Pierce. Though Pierce had a somewhat disappointing campaign last season, Mitchell could bolster Indianapolis’ offense, positioning himself among the team’s top three pass-catchers in 2024.
If his raw potential translates to NFL success, he could transform this group into one of the league’s most formidable.
A New Era for the Indianapolis Colts’ Offense
The Colts are banking on Mitchell to realize the potential many scouts see in him, potentially turning their receiving corps into a nightmare for opposing defenses. With Pittman’s reliability and the promising young talent of Downs and Pierce, Indianapolis is quietly assembling a potent offense that could surprise teams next season.
