Reuniting Boyd and Callahan could create a familiar dynamic in the Tennessee Titans. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that Boyd’s contract, worth up to $4.5 million, brings valuable slot experience to a team needing help in that role. Boyd played 81.6% of his snaps in the slot while at Cincinnati, according to Pro Football Focus (PFF), and he is poised to continue this role in Tennessee.
Impact on Treylon Burks’ Role
Treylon Burks, who has primarily played outside wide receiver (73.6% of snaps outside per PFF), may find his role changing with Boyd’s arrival. Head coach Brian Callahan underscored the need for a strong slot presence earlier this year:
We have to have someone emerge for us at the slot receiver position when we’re in 11 personnel. You need depth at every position. Guys that are fast, explosive, and physical—you can’t have enough of them.
Boyd’s signing may shift Burks’ standing on the depth chart, especially with DeAndre Hopkins and new free-agent acquisition Calvin Ridley likely to be the primary outside options.
Treylon Burks is a sneaking name to watch for a Wr2.
Was a first round pick at one time and hasn’t lived up to the hype. Still only 24 years old and a lot of potential.

Tight Competition for Roster Spots
With Boyd expected to lock down the slot position and Hopkins and Ridley set as starting wideouts, Burks will be vying for a reduced role. He may have to fight for one of two or three roster spots against fellow receiver hopefuls Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, Kyle Philips, rookie Jha’Quan Jackson, and Colton Dowell. Titans offensive coordinator Nick Holz has made it clear Burks will need to earn his position:
“He’s a first-round pick, obviously you can see all of the talent. But he’s going to get what he earns.”
What This Means for the Tennessee Titans Offense?
Boyd’s signing aims to provide a polished slot receiver for the Titans, ensuring their receiving corps becomes a more well-rounded threat. The addition, however, signals a significant challenge for Burks and other receivers vying for a spot on the depth chart. Competition in Tennessee’s wide receiver room will be fierce, and Boyd’s arrival heightens the stakes as the team seeks explosive offensive production.
