San Francisco 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw recently sat down with NBC Sports Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco on the “49ers Talk” podcast. Reflecting on that moment, he admitted, “Sometimes you get a little flashback and shed a couple of tears thinking about it.”
A Crucial Defensive Leader in the San Francisco 49ers’ Lineup
Dre Greenlaw was a key defensive player for the 49ers last season, finishing just behind Fred Warner in several defensive categories. Despite missing two games, Greenlaw accumulated 120 combined tackles, 75 solo tackles, and 45 assisted tackles. He delivered even better performances during the playoffs, especially during San Francisco’s divisional-round victory over the Green Bay Packers. Despite being listed on the injury report due to a right Achilles issue, he led the team in tackles (eight) and passes defended (two), also managing to intercept Packers quarterback Jordan Love twice.
Dre Greenlaw’s Devastating Injury Revelation Unveiled
During the interview, Dre Greenlaw shared the deep sense of disappointment he felt after his injury took him off the field during such a critical game. “It’s definitely an emotional thing because you know how hard you worked for that moment, how hard your team worked to get in that moment,” he reflected. “You’re that close to it and you can’t go out there and compete. So it just kind of feels like you left everybody hanging.”
His emotional turmoil was further compounded when he realized it was his left Achilles that had been torn. “I thought, ‘Oh, no, somebody stepped on my right Achilles,’ but then I’m reaching for my left one. It ended up being my left Achilles. It was just a devastating, horrible feeling,” Greenlaw said, recalling the moment. “I took that step and that’s when I had no power on my leg, no nothing. … It was kind of dead.”

Despite the devastation of this setback, Dre Greenlaw remains resilient and focused on recovery. He’s determined to come back stronger, hoping to make a significant impact on the 49ers’ defense again.
