According to reports, he was operating his scooter when he collided with a car. He was immediately transported to the hospital and was put on a ventilator and given neck support. Additionally, he received medical attention for a fractured leg and collarbone.
Nidal remained in a state of unconsciousness for four days after the accident. Upon regaining consciousness, he had no recollection of the collision but was alert enough to converse.
The breathing tubes were also removed at this point. Four days later, he showed signs of improvement. While his left leg was encased in a cast, he was able to speak clearly and engage with his visitors.
