There is a lot to love and appreciate about modern cinema, but nothing compares to the magic of a classic movie musical. There are no special effects. These scenes show the pure human talent, and how a great song-and-dance routine can make millions of fans smile as nothing else can. To see some of the best moments mashed up together and set to a pop tune? It’s so. Much. FUN. You have to watch this video if you are having a bad day.
Michael Binder is an author and film, preservation advocate. He wanted to do the same thing with movies from the Golden Age of Hollywood, but only with dance scenes with Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’s song called Uptown Funk. None of the movies have been sped up or slowed down to match the song, and none of them were made after 1953. The result is a movie that shows that classic song-and-dance women and men have the same amount of talent as anyone acting, singing, or dancing today. You can watch this.
That was absolutely delightful. It is a treat to see clips from so many classic films, but it is also impressive how Binder was able to time everything so precisely. If you weren’t aware of them before, you could almost be convinced that they were choreographed to “Uptown Funk.
Without Singin’ in the Rain, it wouldn’t be a movie musical. Donald O’Connor, Gene Kelly, and Debbie Reynolds are in a movie.

This one is Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra in sailor suits. But it is actually their first buddy picture, 1945’s Anchors Aweigh, which features them running around Los Angeles.
