The One Piece Remake announcement By Wit Studio was an unexpected treat for the fanbase in the last month of the year. From the much-awaited Luffy’s Gear Five in the anime series to Netflix’s One Piece Live Action to Kuma’s backstory in the manga series, the fanbase of One Piece has had a very busy 2023. Wit Studio’s announcement was the icing on the cake for the fanbase, and it vowed to “fix” the areas where the OG anime series fell short, which made the animators unhappy. Here is what they have to say!
One Piece Remake: OG Animators Unhappy With The News
The One Piece fandom has always had a complaint about the pacing. The OG One Piece undoubtedly is well-animated, with outstanding character designs, and they had the ideal amount of pace throughout. But as the series started progressing gradually, One Piece suffered bad pacing, which, again, had a reason to be anticipated, considering how close the anime series was catching up with the manga.
Wit Studio’s ultimate motive is to give a retouch to the OG anime and “fix” the pacing issues of the series. After the One Piece Live Action, Netflix seems to be quite interested in the One Piece series since that’s the only OTT platform distributing the series for streaming. Amidst all the excitement, this sudden announcement from Wit and Netflix on the One Piece remake didn’t sit well with the OG animators. Twitter user @tatman, from the animation team of OG One Piece, has recently taken to Twitter to post about their discontent with One Piece Remake.

One Piece Remake: What Do the Fans Say?
Interestingly, there is a fan-made version of One Piece known as “One Pace,” which aims to remove unnecessary scenes and is meticulously edited by fans. Fans feel that One Piece needs a remake as they are fed up with “too many” filler episodes, causing them to lose interest in the series. Well, it’s not just One Piece, as the fans claim there is always a slow pacing, which is an overall problem with the weekly Shonen animes.
Here’s a radical idea that has never been tried before in the history of anime: filler arcs! The anime team could follow the same pacing as the manga and use 2 chapters per episode, but after every arc, they could put an in-between arc that allows the manga to get back in the lead!

The actual staff is doing an amazing job and I will forever be grateful for all the beautifully animated and directed moments, and the iconic musical themes and voices. The artists did and still are doing a fantastic job. It’s a production problem, shouldn’t have been weekly in the first place. But that’s not the team’s fault. I like what they did and still do.

While most of today’s anime requires at least a month or so to release new episodes divided into many seasons, One Piece has continued its tradition for over 20 years without dividing the episodes into Seasons. Fans feel the animation studio should have learned its lesson instead of “disrespecting” Eiichiro Oda’s work.
One Piece Remake: Is Netflix Eyeing The One Piece Series? What’s The Future?
It seems Netflix has found its newfound obsession with One Piece. The One Piece Live Action was executed brilliantly, and now fans are beginning to trust Netflix with their favorite series. Season 2 of One Piece Live Action has been hinted at, and now fans are already looking forward to The One Piece Remake. The fans are curious about what “changes” or “fixes” Wit Studio has planned to retouch the series, as the OG anime is yet to finish.
With “East Blue Saga,” Netflix promises the fans more One Piece content from them. So, will Netflix gradually take over Eiichiro Oda’s work? Fans feel now that Netflix has got the taste of success with One Piece Live Action, it just won’t stop there. Some of the fans also feel that One Piece Live Action is getting expensive for Netflix, and to curb the cost, Netflix has now opted for a One Piece Remake with Wit Studio.
Conspiracy Theory Time… I am CONVINCED they are going ALL-IN on AI for this.
Think about it. They want to remake One Piece for new viewers who can't handle the older, SD versions of the first few hundred episodes. Netflix has their expensive L-A version and want people to… https://t.co/Fcq7ADkKBm

According to Netflix traditions, most anime series get adapted with just 12-24 episodes per season. However, this isn’t enough to cover the entire One Piece series. Even if they succeed, it will take Netflix almost 17 years to produce the anime series properly, which isn’t Netflix’s style! Will Netflix be able to keep One Piece for such a long time, or get bored with it quickly?
