OnePlus recently started to release Oxygen OS Open Beta Update for the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T devices. However, the beta update was halted after some user reported that the new version is bricking their devices.
OnePlus has created its name for packing top of the line hardware on a low priced device. OnePlus is highly acclaimed for featuring one of the best Android ROM Oxygen OS.
The Chinese company took a precautionary measure and pulled the plug of the Open Beta Update for OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T.
What was the issue with the OnePlus update?
On its official device forums, OnePlus acknowledged that they have received reports from several users that after installing the open beta updates their device was unable to boot up or they got an error prompt stating of a failure.
OnePlus Global Product Manager Manu J wrote on the OnePlus forum that they have received the reports about OTA failure and device not booting up after the update and they will the issue.
OnePlus uses its open beta programme to test out features before releasing on stable channel. The users who are interested have to register for the Open Beta.
Features of OnePlus Open Beta Update
Even though Open Beta might bring instability to the device, enthusiast generally installs the update to check out all the latest stuff the tech company is working.
Some times feature in beta ROM might not make it to the stable version.
The latest Open Beta Update brings tonnes of feature to OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T which include an optimized screenshot and phone app, an improved adaptation of color in the shelf and huge improvements in weather app that is shipped by OnePlus.
OnePlus 6T also get the same feature with additive improvement photo and gallery app.
These updates will be released via OTA for the users who are already have migrated to open beta. To move on Open Beta users need to sideload the update package provided by One Plus for their devices. After which they will receive all further beta update via OTA.
Release date
Since beta update based on Android 9 is already rolled out in China, it indicates we might be seeing a stable release for all global version in the near future.
