The buzz around P-Valley has been tremendous ever since its first two seasons achieved critical acclaim. This Starz drama series is based on the play Pussy Valley.
It follows the lives of the people who work at a Mississippi strip club called The Pynk and the difficulties they face day-to-day both in and outside their jobs. As excitement for the third season continues to build, anticipation is at an all-time high.
P-Valley Season 2 Recap
Season 2 ended with the main character Mercedes Woodbine (Evans) stepping down from The Pynk and embarking on a new life path. Moreover, Lil’ Murda (J. Alphonse Nicholson) and Uncle Clifford Sayles (Nicco Annan) ultimately choose to share their hidden relationship with those around them.
The end of season 2 has brought up a lot of questions that still remain unanswered, and while it is unknown what direction the show will take in exploring these storylines, there has been no official announcement about P-Valley season 3.
Will there be a P-Valley Season 3?
It was announced in October 2022, two months after the conclusion of season 2, that P-Valley would have a third season on the Starz network. Show creator, Katori Hall announced the renewal of the series in a statement that read:
“I am blessed beyond measure for this opportunity to write the next chapter of P-Valley. With its complex, dynamic and beautifully flawed characters, this show is a love letter to marginalized communities in the American South who rarely see themselves reflected on screen, and it brings me immense joy to know that it has been embraced by folx worldwide.”
However, in May 2023, a statement was made that production of P-Valley season 3 had completely ceased because of the Writers Guild of America strike. Show creator Katori Hall declared her backing for the writers on strike, saying,
“We will not be filming until a fair deal is reached”
The end of the writer’s strike on September 27, 2023, did not mean production on P-Valley season 3 was going to begin right away, due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.
Release Date
It is uncertain when season 3 of P-Valley will be released as the SAG-AFTRA strike has put a halt to production. The first season of the show began in July 2020, followed by Season 2 in June 2022.
If the production schedule remains the same, viewers can expect the third season of P-Valley to air in either mid or late 2024. Hoping that the SAG-AFTRA strike will be resolved in 2023.
The cast of P-Valley Season 3
It is plausible that the majority of the lead characters featured in previous seasons of P-Valley will come back for its third installment, although nothing has been officially announced yet. These include:
- Brandee Evans as Mercedes Woodbine
- Nicco Annan as Uncle Clifford Sayles
- Shannon Thornton as Keyshawn Harris/Miss Mississippi

- J Alphonse Nicholson as LaMarques/Lil Murda

- Harriett D Foy as Patrice Woodbine
- Dan J Johnson as Corbin Kyle

Elarica Johnson is the only actor who has been confirmed to not have a role in the third season of P-Valley. Johnson portrayed Autumn Knight, a character who chose to leave at the end of season 2. Creator Katori Hall suggested that Autumn has achieved her purpose, explaining that she arrived with the wind and is now leaving with it.
Season 3: Plot
The final episode of the second season of P-Valley brought Uncle Clifford’s words to fruition. As he told Mercedes to “dream new dreams” it felt like the characters were all beginning to look ahead to the future and form new aspirations.
For instance, Mercedes adapted to life after retirement, Lil’ Murda and Uncle Clifford grew to be very fond of each other, and Autumn left Chucalissa to embark on a fresh start.
Since Lil’ Murda and Uncle Clifford have made their relationship public, this could have a major effect in upcoming episodes. Despite this, things will not be simple due to Autumn taking $40,000 from the company.
In an interview with Elle, Hall revealed that she has great plans for Mercedes ahead,
“I want her to have everything. I want her to have a wonderful relationship with her daughter. I want her to have a wonderful relationship with her mother. They probably need to go to therapy. They need to do all the things.”
