The iconic game show host, Pat Sajak, is set to retire from hosting “Wheel of Fortune” after four decades. The 41st season of the game show will be Sajak’s last season of hosting. He announced his retirement via his Twitter handle stating that, “The time has come.”
Wheel of Fortune’s Pat Sajak Retires
Sajak announced his decision to take a step back from hosting the game show after the 41st season which will air in September 2023. The 76-year-old took to Twitter to share the news with his fans.
“Well, the time has come. I’ve decided that our 41st season, which begins in September, will be my last. It’s been a wonderful ride, and I’ll have more to say in the coming months. Many thanks to you all. (If nothing else, it’ll keep the clickbait sites busy!)”
However, the news does not come as a shock since Sajak had already hinted at retiring from hosting. In 2019, Pat Sajak had to temporarily retire from hosting the Wheel of Fortune due to intestinal surgery. While speaking to ABC News Exclusive, Sajak was asked how much longer would he continue hosting the show, and he responded-
“I don’t know, I’m not getting any younger.”
“I’d rather leave a couple years too early than couple years too late.”
“I don’t have a date in mind, 2…3…[years] maybe.”
Pat Sajak Set A Guinness World Record
In 2019, Sajak made it to the Guinness World Record list for having the longest career as a game show host. The Wheel of Fortune itself has a record for being the longest-running show in the country with over 7,000 episodes. With Sajak leaving the show by the end of the 41st season, everyone is speculating who will take over his position. While there have been many names thrown around who could replace Pat Sajak, there are rumours of his daughter, Maggie Sajak could take over after him. Maggie has already appeared on the show while stepping in for Vanna White.
However, there is no official statement as to who would overtake such an iconic host’s role. Who would you like to see replace Pat on the game show?
