Penny Marshall, the actress who featured in the popular ABC comedy sitcom ‘Laverne & Shirley’, has passed away, according to Variety. She was 75 years old.
Marshall passed away on Monday at her home in Hollywood Hills. As per Marshall’s publicist, a complication from diabetes was the reason behind her death.
Marshall was famous for her role, Laverne in ‘Laverne & Shirley’ which aired on ABC from the year 1976 up to 1983.
She was the first woman to have a directed a 1998 movie called ‘Big’ which earned over $100 million. Besides this, Marshall has also been the film-maker of the movies ‘Jumpin’ Jack Flash,’ ‘A League of Their Own,’ as well as ‘Awakenings.’
When the sad news of her demise spread across social media, many of Marshall’s fellow performers and film-makers paid tribute via Twitter.
Notably, Marshall was the younger sister of Garry Marshall, a successful film and television producer, and director. She, later on, pursued a career as a director after the ABC sitcom got over. As a film-maker, ‘Jumpin’ Jack Flash’ was the first movie which she directed in 1986.
Marshall’s family said that a small celebration of her life would be held at a future date.
