Sinbad was a major star in hit comedies such as First Kid and Jingle All the Way throughout the 1990s. However, the movie that has garnered the greatest attention in recent years might not have even been. The movie “Shazaam” has dominated conversations, disagreements, and debates among youths in the 1990s.
It’s funny how memories work. Someone else may come along and remember the same event in a very different way, even though you believe you remember everything correctly. Our brains are capable of deceiving multiple people at once, and when we discover that we have all been mistaken along the way, we are all in complete shock.
Sinbad Never Truly Appeared In A Film Where He Was A Genie
Many people remember the movie online, some even incorporating Sinbad’s involvement into a full plot. It is said to have been called Shazam.
In a post on Reddit, one person explained: “more frequently you will hear of a plot involving a] single father of 2 kids that just moved in to a suburb neighbourhood, the kids find a lamp leading to a “funny” reveal of Sinbad as a genie, a fight between the kids when the brother finds out the sister wasted the 2nd wish on fixing a doll and ending with a pool party scene.”
It was never made into a movie, never published, and no one ever saw it. However, this does not deter a significant portion of 90s youth from thinking that it was because they somehow remembered seeing a movie that they were not able to view. These followers claim that Shazaam starred Sinbad, the 90s pop icon, as an incompetent genie that two grieving children unintentionally call upon.
The narrative is rather vivid, matching the recollections of the movie’s VHS cover, which purportedly showed Sinbad emerging from a lamp.
The sole issue is that Sinbad never starred in a Shazaam film during the 1990s. individuals are starting to believe he did because of the Mandela effect, which Psychology Today defines as a phenomenon when “large groups of people distinctly remember something differently from how it occurred.”
People Expressing Themselves On Social Media Platforms
Understandably, those who thought of themselves were Shazaam supporters have been appalled to learn the truth.
“I refuse to believe that there is not a movie out there called Shazaam starring Sinbad as a genie,” one X user posted.
“So all of us just imagined watching the same movie ??? No shot.”
Another commented:
“Nah I definitely watched the Sinbad genie movie.”
Internet people attempted to investigate the common memory after the realisation generated uproar. Many of them held the belief that the idea of Shazaam originated from uncertainty surrounding the release of another genie-themed film called Kazaam in the 1990s.
Despite the similarity in titles, Shaquille O’Neal, the basketball player, played a genie in Kazaam, not Sinbad. Even if some people still don’t think Sinbad never acted in a genie film, the comedian has already addressed the false recollection in a post on X.
Sinbad On Acknowledging That He Was Never In A Genie Movie
Addressing his fans back in 2016, Sinbad wrote:
“Have you noticed no one my age has seen this so-called Sinbad Genie movie, only you people who were kids in the 90’s. The young mind.”
He also said:
“Okay for all you people who think I did a genie movie.. well haven’t done one YET, but I am going to do one so we can close this chapter.”
Later on, he played a genie in a CollegeHumor video, although it was merely a lighthearted allusion to the Shazaam enigma. The film, which was supposed to be called “The Lost Sinbad Movie,” has never been discovered or even made.
