After announcing the film’s comeback, PETA has requested Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell to include vegan burgers in their Good Burger sequel.
When it was reported that a sequel to the classic cult ’90s film is now officially in the works, fans were ecstatic to see Thompson and Mitchell, both 44, back on the big screen.
The announcement was made during last week’s edition of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
In a statement about his return, Thompson noted that working on the sequel is “surreal.”
Good Burger
“I can’t believe it’s been a little over 25 years since Good Burger invented great customer service!” According to CBS News, Thompson stated. “I’m so proud to have been a part of something that so many generations of people have come to love, and now to be back where it all started working on the sequel is surreal!”
Mitchell shared his long-time friend’s delight.
“Ed is one of those timeless characters who has brought fans so much joy and laughter over the years, and it’s such a beautiful blessing to be still doing it after all these years,” he continued. “It’s an honor to return and continue the stories of Dex, Ed, and Good Burger for both the people who grew up watching and their children.”
Good Burger was first produced in 1997 and recounted the narrative of great customer service through the eyes of a dim-witted youngster and his new coworker as they struggle to salvage the old burger joint.
Burgers, of course, play an essential role in the film.
Following the announcement of the sequel, PETA has chimed in, pushing both Thompson and Mitchell to include vegan burgers instead of meat ones.
The animal-rights organization stated in a post headed ‘Bring Back ‘Good Burger,’ but Hold the Meat’ that it sent letters to both stars double down on its advice.
“A Good Burger sequel is just months away—but PETA believes it will take more than Ed’s special sauce to keep the film’s burger joint popular,” they said in a March 22 press release. “In a letter sent today to stars Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell, the group requests that the duo use their clout to make the fictional eatery the “home of the vegan burger,” with a sustainable, animal-friendly menu.”
PETA Associate Director Lauren Thomasson even contributed a potential script line.
“‘Welcome to Good Burger, home of the vegan burger—may I take your order?’ That’s what we at PETA have in mind for Good Burger 2,” Thomasson wrote. “Some things (like beef patties) are better left in the 1990s, and if Good Burger is to survive new competition in 2023, its menu will feature an abundance of animal-free offerings, including meat-free burgers, dairy-free shakes, and, of course, a special secret vegan sauce.”
Thomasson stated in the official letter, which was also attached to the release that she would be pleased to meet with the producers to assist in any way she could before signing off.
Only time will tell whether Good Burgers 2 will heed the advise.
The upcoming sequel will begin filming this summer.
