The Iconic Return
After bidding farewell to the iconic Saturday Night Live stage in May, Pete Davidson returned in spectacular fashion. Fans were eager to see how the 29-year-old comedian would make his grand entrance, especially considering his newsmaking love life and headline-grabbing antics. In true Pete Davidson style, the comedian did not disappoint.
The Skit That Has Everyone Talking
Davidson captivated the audience with his hilarious segment called ‘I’m Just Pete.’ Mimicking Ryan Gosling’s version of the song ‘I’m Just Ken,’ the comedian put on a show complete with pink trousers and a blonde wig. He belted out lyrics that had fans in splits, singing, “I’m just Pete, looking like a meth head on the street.”
Pete’s self-deprecating humor was on full display as he joked about his “b***hole eyes” and quipped, “I’m mentally ill and I’m on drugs. But hey, I’m still in Super Bowl commercials.”
“Yet I never sleep alone at night,” Davidson added, cheekily referencing his string of high-profile relationships.
“People online still call me Skete because I’m a guy whose name I can’t say legally,” he crooned, before an image of Kanye appeared on the screen behind him and was met by tumultuous laughter from the audience.
Social Media Erupts
Viewers immediately took to X (formerly Twitter) to express their thoughts on Davidson’s epic Kanye dig.
“HA! I knew Pete would take a shot at Kanye! Well played #SNL,” wrote one user.
“Pete Davidson kinda funny idk. Him also calling out Kanye West was funny too,” said another.
There were those who couldn’t contain their excitement for the show’s hilarious sketches, including Travis Kelce’s cameo.
“Travis [Kelce] cameo and now we get a ‘I’m Just Ken’ (w/ quick Kanye pic) parody? Total win,” a fan exclaimed.
Another chipped in, “Everyday I wait for the Kanye bar from Pete. Finally.”
A Moment of Sobriety Amid the Laughter
It wasn’t all jokes and laughter; Pete took a moment to show his rarely-seen serious side. Commenting on the recent horrors in the Middle East, he said, “This week we saw the horrible images and stories from Israel and Gaza.”
“And I know what you’re thinking, who better to comment on it than Pete Davidson? I know something about what that’s like,” he added.
Pete’s father, Scott Davidson, was a firefighter who tragically lost his life while responding to the 9/11 attacks. The comedian drew upon this personal experience to empathize with the children suffering in the conflict.
“I saw so many children suffering, Israeli children and Palestinian children and it took me back to a really horrible place,” he said. “Nobody deserves that, especially kids.”
Facing Trauma Head-On
Pete Davidson has never shied away from discussing his battle with PTSD since losing his father. Scott was last seen running up the stairs of the Marriott World Trade Center before it collapsed along with the Twin Towers. Davidson found out about his father’s fate through television and has been navigating trauma therapy since.
