Disney announced the live-action remake of Snow White & The Seven Dwarfs and Peter Dinklage is facing the wrath of several Disney fans. The Game of Thrones actor had previously expressed his thoughts about the remake of the movie and Disney’s “backward” stance regarding the story.
Peter Dinklage’s Thoughts About Snow White Live-Action Remake
Last year when Disney announced the live-action remake of the Snow White movie, Peter Dinklage had some thoughts about the movie that he expressed on a podcast. Dinklage was on WTF with Marc Maron’s podcast where he bashed Disney for making a story about seven dwarves which was quite backwards in its characterism. He stated that while Disney tried to showcase representation by casting a Latina actress in the lead, they ignored the fact that the movie is about the seven dwarves as well.
“There’s a lot of hypocrisy going on. Literally no offense to anyone, but I was a little taken aback when they were very proud to cast a Latina actress as Snow White. But you’re still telling the story of ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.’ Take a step back and look at what you’re doing there. It makes no sense to me.”
Peter Dinklage asserted how Disney was completely overlooking the part where the story is about seven dwarves living in caves.
“You’re progressive in one way but you’re still making that fucking backward story of seven dwarves living in the cave. What the fuck are you doing, man? Have I done nothing to advance the cause from my soapbox? I guess I’m not loud enough.”
The British actor continued by making it clear that his rage was pointed towards the studio and he has a lot of respect for the actors involved in the movie.
“They were so proud of that, and all love and respect to the actress and the people who thought they were doing the right thing but I’m just like, ‘What are you doing?’”
The remake is set to star Rachel Zegler as Snow White and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen. Zegler has starred in Spielberg’s West Side Story and will also appear in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes.
After Peter Dinklage’s comments made their way to the internet, Disney shared a response in a statement.
“To avoid reinforcing stereotypes from the original animated film, we are taking a different approach with these seven characters and have been consulting with members of the dwarfism community. We look forward to sharing more as the film heads into production after a lengthy development period.”
Why Are People Upset With Peter Dinklage?
Recently, a few pictures were posted by the Daily Mail US, which showcased the cast of Snow White & The Seven Dwarves. Twitter fired up after the pictures went viral. Fans are upset that due to Peter Dinklage’s comments, Disney is trying to be “too woke” and is ruining the essence of the story and characters. The pictures show a bunch of actors of different colours and sizes who are playing dwarves. Whereas the actual animated series had real dwarves.

American professional wrestler, Dylan Postl commented about Disney’s decision to cast average-sized actors instead of those who suffer from dwarfism for the role.
“It’s unfortunate that his voice is the only one representing the dwarf community. This is a role made for me and our community for the first time ever. I can’t be Superman or Spider-Man or Captain America. I can be one of the seven dwarfs. As a dwarf actor and a part of the dwarf community, this is made for me. It doesn’t happen, not in a major setting like this.”
“It’s this weird thing where [Peter Dinklage] is saying that ‘Oh, it’s bad that we’re still doing Snow White and the Seven Dwarves,’ so he doesn’t necessarily want that. But as little people actors, it’ like well we kinda wanna work, we kinda want that part. And if that’s what’s available, then that’s what we’d like to do. At the same time, I get what he’s saying.”
