After rushing to save his children in Florida, Peyton Hillis is said to be “unconscious” and is getting care in an ICU. It is said that his health condition is “critical.”
The 36-year-old former running back for the Cleveland Browns was flown to the hospital by helicopter after saving his children from drowning in the ocean in Pensacola, Florida, after a swimming accident.
A source also says that the ex-NFL player is getting help for his lungs and kidneys.
It’s also said that Hillis’s children are safe and healthy, which is good news.
Since then, Hillis’ uncle, Greg Hillis, has written a Facebook post about his nephew to give an update.
I just wanted to let everyone know on Razorback Nation that Peyton is doing better,
uncle Greg writes.
He’s still in intensive care and having some problems with his kidneys and his lungs but doctors say he is improving.
I just wanted to head off any rumors that may be started. I’m sure he would want everyone to know that he appreciates all of the prayers being thrown up on his behalf!!!
Peyton Hillis played football for four years at the University of Arkansas. In the seventh round of the 2008 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos picked him up. This was the start of his professional career.
Hillis became a star for the Cleveland Browns after being traded to them in 2010. He ran for 1,177 yards on 270 carries and scored 11 touchdowns that year.
Then, it was announced that Hillis would be on the cover of the Madden NFL 12 video game.
Since then, he has signed with teams like the Kansas City Chiefs, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the New York Giants. He finally stopped playing in 2015 and retired.
Doctors told Hillis to quit after he got concussions at the end of his last two seasons, according to a source.
And after a while, it got too hard,
Hillis said at the time.
I didn’t care as much anymore, I didn’t care to work at it. Football brought me down.
I still love the game and I still have a lot of friends in the game, but as far as NFL football goes, my heart’s just not in it anymore.
The news of 24-year-old Buffalo Bills star Damar Hamlin collapsing shook the NFL world the same week that the sad news about Hillis came out.
Hamlin fell down on the field after what looked like a normal tackle. Hamlin is said to have had a cardiac arrest and has been in the ICU for the last few days. Yesterday, his fans got some good news when it was said that he was “awake” and talking to his family.
We wish Hillis and Hamlin the best of luck as they work on getting better.
