Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield are the latest set of Pokemon games to launch in 2019. Details about these games were announced in March 2019 and as the days progress, more and more information about this upcoming Pokemon title is emerging.

Pokemon Sword and Shield: Everything That We Know So Far
The development of these eighth-generation Pokemon games had started in 2017. They were first unveiled in late February – on what is commonly known as “Pokemon Day” when the company had launched Pokemon Red and Green in 1996. However, more details about Pokemon Sword and Shield were unveiled in March 2019.
Consoles supported
Almost all Pokemon games are exclusive to Nintendo devices and Pokemon Sword and Shield are going to be exclusive to Nintendo Switch. Nintendo’s exclusive games such as Pokemon and the Mario franchises are among the biggest reasons why their consoles continue to thrive in markets dominated by XBOX and PlayStation consoles.
release Date
Nintendo has not announced an official release date for Pokemon Sword and Shield yet. However, going by their usual release schedule for Pokemon games, it is expected to arrive in Q4 2019. Later, the company announced during a ‘Nintendo Direct’ event that the game will release in ‘Late 2019’.
Where is Pokemon Sword and Shield Based?
This latest game is based in ‘Galar’ – a region inspired by Great Britain. The Galar region has cities and towns, caves and mountains, and huge arenas. Galar region also has a clocktower which looks like Big Ben and a palace which resembles the British Parliament.
A hillside monument which looks like the Cerne Abbas Giant is also present in the game.

The three Pokemon using which you can start your journey have also been revealed in the trailer (which you can watch below). These pokemon are Grookey – which is a grass type monkey-like Pokemon. Sobble, a water-type Pokemon which resembles Mudkip. And Scorbunny, a fire-type Pokemon which is basically a rabbit.
