President Trump feels that California owes money to the federal government after its governor announced that it will discontinue the high speed rail project. President Trump tweeted,
California has been forced to cancel the massive bullet train project after having spent and wasted many billions of dollars. They owe the Federal Government three and a half billion dollars. We want that money back now. Whole project is a ‘green’ disaster!
Newsom wouldn’t sit back after hearing this. He tweeted back saying that the news was totally fake. The high speed rail project is still under progress and it will connect the Central Valley and various other places. The money was allotted to them by Congress specifically for this project. He further added,
We’re not giving it back. The train is leaving the station — better get on board!
During his first State speech, Gavin Newsom mentioned that this rail project would connect Los Angeles and San Francisco. The present plan of the project is costlier and taking too long. At present, there is no connectivity from San Diego to Sacramento, let alone from LA to San Francisco. Even though that may not be possible, they have other plans to connect Merced and Bakersfield. It’s a 119 mile rail line stretch.

Newsom believes that many people would think that it’s no use connecting these two places. Now everyone, these places are more dynamic and need to be well connected.
The estimated cost of the project is $77 billion and is supposed to be complete by 2033. California was allocated $3.5 billion by former President Obama as part of “stimulus plan”. California has spent around $2.5 billion out of it. Newsom wants to invest the entire amount in this project.
