Prison Break was renewed for another season a while back. There have been a lot of rumblings about the show and some of them were confirmed as well. One of them is that Netflix may negotiate for exclusive rights of the upcoming episodes.

Dominic Purcell, who portrays Lincoln Burrows, initially confirmed the news of show’s renewal in 2017. Fox confirmed the news in 2018. After that, several updates were made which confirmed the upcoming installment. However, no specific release date window or production date was confirmed.
This didn’t discourage the fans from making speculations about the upcoming season. Several rumors talk about Netflix being the new home of the show. However, it seems that Fox won’t easily pass on the primary distribution rights of the show.
Purcell also mentioned something about the reason for the delay of the show. The Fox-Disney merger was responsible for the delay and affected the show’s production. He said,
Because of the #fox merger with #Disney it’s been a slow process for #prisonbreak 6 to get going.
The show’s production would begin only after the merger’s intricacies end. In 2018, Disney became a part of the bidding war, but the deal worth $71.3 billion completed last March. According to the social media update by Purcell, Fox has full control over the production of the upcoming season and probably its TV distribution as well.
Still, there is a huge possibility that Netflix would like to secure licensing deals for streaming the upcoming episodes. In some parts, the first five seasons of the show are available on Netflix.
