Travis Kelce, the tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, is heading to his fourth Super Bowl with the team following a season filled with achievements.
When Kelce began a romantic relationship with Taylor Swift and she showed up to one of his games, sales of his No. 87 jersey skyrocketed by approximately 400%. The number on this highly sought-after jersey holds significant significance for Kelce.
Why Does Travis Kelce Wear the 87 Jersey?
During an interview with NFL Films in 2023, the Kelce brothers, Jason and his younger sibling Kelce, discussed their experience playing against each other in the Super Bowl.
“If there is a Kelce legacy – two brothers making it to the NFL – it started in 1987, because this big guy [Jason] was born in 1987.”
During a separate interview, Travis Kelce expressed his older brother’s significant role in his football journey that year. While attending the University of Cincinnati, both siblings were on the football team, but Travis was ultimately suspended due to breaking team regulations.
“I got my scholarship taken, too. I was actually staying with my brother. I was in his room, his house. Kind of like two brothers growing up living in the same room. In terms of rent, I wasn’t paying it. In terms of food, he was helping me with that.”
Travis referred to Jason, who assisted in his return to the team, as his “lifeline.” He stated that his older sibling spoke to several coaches to persuade them to offer him another opportunity.
On the other hand, Jason Kelce talked about his younger brother and how he’s matured over the years.
“He’s matured. He came in young and very rambunctious, but we all change over the course of a career. Life changes as we get older, with values and energy level. He’s gotten older. He’s gotten more mature.”
Travis Kelce had nothing but words of appreciation for his brother, Jason.
“I’m forever in debt to this guy for putting his name, our name – the Kelce name – on the line. When I say I owe it all to him, I really do.”
Although Jason’s team did not reach the Super Bowl this year, he was able to support his younger brother and join in the pre-game festivities with other fans.
The 36-year-old made headlines when he was spotted partying shirtless at the Chiefs-Bills game earlier this month, where he was joined by Taylor Swift, known for catching attention in the stadium boxes while cheering on Travis Kelce.
After winning the game, the Chiefs secured a spot in Super Bowl LVIII where they will face off against the San Francisco 49ers. The highly anticipated game will take place in Las Vegas, Nevada on February 11 and can be watched on CBS and Nickelodeon, as well as streamed on Paramount+.
Travis Kelce Talks About Playing In Super Bowl LVII
During the newest installment of New Heights featuring Jason and Travis Kelce, the NFL athletes reflected on the current season while Travis Kelce offered his insight on competing in the championship game for the fourth time in the past five years.
“It feels like it’s a bit sweeter man. This road to where we are now has been more of a challenge, which means you have to overcome more, which means it kinda means a little bit more.”
Just last month, the 36-year-old tight end expressed his discontent with the team’s dynamics and their failures on the podcast. This was following the Chiefs’ Christmas Day loss to the Las Vegas Raiders, where he let his emotions get the better of him and threw his helmet in frustration on the sidelines.
“It’s everybody on the team. And whether that’s prep, whether that’s having the confidence and understanding of what the defense is in their coverages, their gaps in the run game, how we’re picking up blitzes, how we’re running routes versus certain coverages. All the above.”
Following that, the team has accomplished exactly that, efficiently handling their tasks in the playoffs by securing a decisive victory against the Miami Dolphins in the wild-card round, followed by triumphs against the Buffalo Bills and the Baltimore Ravens.
The atmosphere on the team plane during the return journey to Kansas City after Sunday’s game mirrored the unpredictable path the Kansas City Chiefs have traveled to reach their destination in Las Vegas on February 11th for the important match.
“We got a special group, man, and that’s why this one feels that much better. Let’s go and get it, baby!”
