There is little doubt that Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark, a.k.a. Iron Man, will continue to influence the Marvel Cinematic Universe characters. Although Tony died in Avengers: Endgame, his connection to other MCU heroes, including Spider-Man (Tom Holland), ensures that his legacy will live on. While his story appears to have concluded, there have been numerous reports that Downey is seriously considering returning to the MCU in the near future, but only if one of his former co-stars also returns.
Robert Downey Jr.’s asking price is reportedly too high.
In Endgame, Tony’s adventure came to a suitable finish. Tony, a notoriously selfish character, giving his life to save others was an excellent way to conclude his story arc. But that is not the last time Tony appears in public.
Downey Jr. is said to have reprised the character for Scarlett Johansson’s upcoming picture, Black Widow, which takes place before the events of Endgame. The film is set to hit theatres in May and maybe Downey’s final appearance as Iron Man in the MCU.
However, according to inside sources, Robert Downey Jr. has been negotiating a return to the MCU. The only issue, according to reports, is that Downey is demanding too much money to repeat the part.
Iron Man was the film that kicked off the MCU in 2008, and Downey’s performance has been a driving force behind Marvel’s success over the last decade. Despite his contributions, reports allege that Marvel is unwilling to pay Downey.
Who else does Robert Downey Jr. want back if he returns to the MCU?
Aside from the money, Downey is said to have asked the studio to bring back one of his favorite co-stars. We Got This Covered reports that the actor will only return to the MCU if Gwyneth Paltrow reprises her role as Pepper Potts.
Downey reportedly claimed that Pepper’s tale is crucial to Tony, especially if they can bring him back from the grave. He also apparently requested that Marvel include her in earlier films.
The only problem with the request is that Paltrow has stated that her time in the MCU is coming to an end. We can only hope that the actress would reconsider if Downey returns, but that could be the deciding factor.
Of course, Downey has not commented on the rumors of his comeback to the MCU. Fans must wait and watch how this one plays out until we hear something official.
Fans will apparently be able to see Robert Downey Jr. return to action when Black Widow, starring Johansson, Florence Pugh, David Harbour, and Rachel Weisz, is released in theatres on May 1.
