Sanditon Star Ben Lloyd-Hughes Talks About the Show’s Sensual Moment
A Steamy Wallop
Sanditon Season 3 Episode 2 focuses on Miss Georgiana Lambe’s fight in court. However, the show still manages to bring the two former lovers, Charlotte Heywood and Alexander Colbourne, closer together. During a concert, the two sit together, and at one point, their hands touch. The scene, although subtle, packs a steamy punch.
A Sexy Moment
According to Sanditon star Ben Lloyd-Hughes, the hand-touching scene required a lot of thought. Although there was often an intimacy director on set, Lloyd-Hughes couldn’t recall if production asked one to choreograph this particular physical moment.
Lloyd-Hughes said, “It has to be subtle enough not to play the end of the series. It has to be subtle enough for it to be only Episode 2. But also magnificent enough and sexy enough, and poignant enough to capture both the characters and the audience’s attention. So it was that fine line between coming on too strong. Too hard, too ‘pokey pokey’. But I loved it.”
Romancing Hands
Lloyd-Hughes recalled his drama school days when students would romance each other’s hands as part of a Restoration comedy project. He believes that hands were seen as a “kind of gateway” for lovers to share passion in both the Restoration and Regency eras.
Lloyd-Hughes said, “It wasn’t a generation, an era of hugging people hello and high-fiving and outward shows of intimacy; making out on promenades. So that was probably the closest you could get to an illicit love affair, and it was exciting.”
The Future of Charlotte’s Betrothed
The scene may have been “illicit,” but what does that mean for Charlotte’s betrothed, Ralph? Fans will have to keep watching to find out.
