Schavaria Reeves was born in the US in 1965. He was also an African American. His exact date of birth is unknown. The late technician gave little information about his early years, therefore there was almost little information available on his father. But we do know that Ollie Reeves was his mother. She passed away in 2021, one year before Reeves.
Reeves is survived by his loving spouse Martha Melendez, their two children Sky and Kayloni Burton, and his brother Ernest Reeves.

Up until the fourth season finale, “I’ll Be Your Shelter,” the final episode he mixed sound for as a member of the “New Amsterdam” crew, he remained a crucial component of the medical drama. Reeves began his professional life by working in music videos. Then he performed boom operator duties for twenty-one episodes of “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” and seventeen episodes of “Chappelle’s Show” respectively.
Reeves has also contributed to the sound departments of films like “Sex and the City,” “American Gangster,” “The Darjeeling Limited,” etc. One of his first jobs as a sound mixer was on the television show “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.” He was a member of the cast for 29 episodes of the programme.
Additionally, he mixed sound for the TV shows Vinyl, Gipsy, Quantico, Shades of Blue, The Code, Little America, etc. The technician is the series’ sound mixer for the well-known “Inventing Anna” by Shonda Rhimes. Schavaria Reeves Died Of Prostate Cancer
On September 24, 2022, in Clifton, New Jersey, USA, Schavaria passed away after a roughly 8-year battle with prostate cancer. The Vander May Wayne Colonial Funeral Home in New Jersey hosted his funeral service on October 1. The CAS (Cinema Audio Society) and other people and organisations conveyed their sympathies to his family.
“Schavaria has been a warrior fighting against prostate cancer. However, the chemo did not work. The cancer metastasized to the lymph nodes. His doctors recommended a clinical trial which also did not work. Recently we learned cancer travelled to his lungs and is not letting up,” one of his family members explained.
Schavaria Reeves Honoured In Season 5 Episode 4 Of New Amsterdam
Schavaria Reeves was a sound mixer on New Amsterdam for all of season 4. From More Joy, the first episode, through I’ll Be Your Shelter, the final episode, his name appeared in the credits for twenty episodes.
The show used the opportunity to pay respect to a beloved staff member who had died away as the heartwarming episode came to a close. A title card with the words “In Memory of Schavaria Reeves 1965-2022” flashed on the screen just before the credits rolled.
