Farrah Turner, Florence County Sheriff investigator passed away on Monday evening at McLeod Hospital after suffering from injuries incurred during mass shooting on 3rd of October.
Sheriff Kenney Boone and the Florence County Sheriff’s Office(FCSO) were very sad to announce the death of the Florence County Sheriff”s Deputy Officer, Farrah B. Turner.
On October 3rd, Turner along with other officers visited debarred lawyer Fred Hopkins,Jr. Seth Hopkins, for a prearranged investigation about the sexual harassment of a minor. On an unexpected turn, Fred Hopkins opened fire on the officers in which Turner got severely injured.
The Florence County Sheriff Office released a statement regarding the death of the officer in which Sheriff Boone stated that Officer Turner dedicated her life to service Florence and that Turner was an excellent professional who devoted to serve the victims of the most cruel crimes imaginable. Sheriff Boone also said that Turner’s Family, FCSO and the Community mourns the loss of a dedicated and sincere officer.
Florence County Coroner Keith von Lutcken said that an autopsy will be conducted at the South Carolina Medical University, Charleston on Tuesday.
This is second such death after the mass shooting. Rep.James Smith grieved that the violent blowup by Fred Hopkins had taken another soul from them. Officer Mandy and Smith offered their deepest of condolences to Turner’s family though they know that it would not equalize what Turner had offered for the public and their safety. Smith also added that the same goes for Officer Terrence Carraway, an another fatality of the mass shooting who had died on the very same day he got shot. The Florence police department said that the department mourns for the loss of both the Officers and also prays for the recovery of the other five law enforcement officers who were also injured during the shooting. The Police department also added that they continue to praise the bravery that the officers upheld during the incident as all of them rushed to the gunfire instead of trying to escape from it which shows the dedication of each office and the duty that is required of them. South Carolina is blessed to have people like them. The funeral arrangements for both the officers will be announced at a later date.
Katie Godwin, the mother of Officer Turner on a statement issued Monday about Turner’s injuries, said that Godwin is very thankful to those who prayed for Officer Turner and that Turner was still in critical condition. Godwin also added that the purpose of the statement was to share with those dear to Officer Turner about the amputating of Turner’s both feet. This was done privately on October 16, 2016. Godwin shared that the murderous heartless act of violence has changed Officer Turner’s life upside down but Godwin still believes in the plan of the Almighty and prays that everything has happened for a reason.
When Turner was in hospital undergoing treatment, a GoFundMe page was started to raise funds for the treatment which raised about $4000 as of today. Fred Hopkins, debarred lawyer and now a suspected shooter had been charged with two murder and five attempt murders. Social Media is filled with condolences from those dear to Officer Turner.
