According to documents acquired by TMZ on Friday, Shannen Doherty has formally filed for divorce from her husband, Kurt Iswarienko, after 11 years of marriage.
The Beverly Hills, 90210 actresses, 52, who celebrated her 52nd birthday on April 12th, stated in the press that she and the photographer had been separated since January of this year.
The former couple first said ‘I do’ in 2011 and had no children during their partnership. Her marriage to Kurt was her third, following marriages to Ashley Hamilton and Rick Salomon.
The Hollywood star’s representative, Leslie Sloane, said, “Divorce is the last thing Shannen Doherty wanted.” Unfortunately, she felt she had no other choice.’
Doherty, who reunited with her Charmed co-stars in March, has been battling breast cancer since it returned as stage four in 2020.
Sloane then told TMZ that the outlet might contact Kurt’s agent, ‘Collier Grimm, at PICTUREKID,’ because she was ‘intimately connected,’ implying that she was engaged in the split.
Separate sources close to Shannen Doherty and Kurt told the publication that the actress is ‘not well’ in terms of her health and that their divorce is far from amicable but rather harsh and very acrimonious.’
In the filings obtained by TMZ, Doherty also demanded spousal support but asked that it not be awarded to the photographer.
Prior to her marriage to Kurt, the actress married Ashley Hamilton in 1993, and their divorce was finalized the following year in 1994. Later, in 2002, she married Rick Salomon, but their marriage was annulled nine months later in 2003.
The actress was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer in February 2020 after being in remission from the illness in 2017.
During a previous interview with People in 2019, the Little House on the Prairie star revealed how her cancer fight had actually strengthened their bond.
‘Cancer solidified us,’ Shannen Doherty gushed to the publication at the time. ‘Kurt and I have a much deeper appreciation for each other now.’
The actress was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015 and underwent surgery, as well as chemotherapy and radiation, which resulted in her remission in 2017. However, cancer resurfaced in 2020.
She further explained, ‘It’s not that our marriage wasn’t good before. But we were definitely going through some growing pains,’ and added, ‘We would lock horns on things, and instead of resolving it, we wouldn’t speak for a couple of days.’
The actress then stated that at the time, ‘we don’t let a night go by mad at each other,’ and revealed, ‘The last time we had a big argument was pre-cancer.’
Shannen Doherty expressed that cancer not only affects the ‘person with cancer’ but also ‘the people in your life. And it’s shaped both of us. We look at life very differently now.’
The star commented on her now-estranged husband’s support at the time, stating, ‘I don’t have to be a sexy little vixen. How Kurt sees me really helps me be a better person. He was always like, ‘I’ve never seen someone handle something so difficult with so much grace. You’re so strong.’
The BH90210 actress gushed, ‘Kurt and I look at each other with such profound respect now. He was my rock in every way possible, and he made sure I knew how much he loved and valued me.’
‘We have a much deeper appreciation [for each other] now, and a much larger capacity for forgiveness.’
Later that year, when promoting her film List Of A Lifetime, Shannen Doherty told People that her cancellation struggle is ‘part of life at this point,’ referring to her now-divorced spouse.
‘My husband says that you would never know that I have cancer. I never really complain. I don’t really talk about it. It’s part of life at this point.’
In October 2011, the former couple married at a lovely sunset wedding in Malibu.
Doherty celebrated her 52nd birthday on April 12th, just before the news of her divorce broke.
Sarah Michelle Gellar, a close friend, and fellow actress paid a particular homage to the star on her own Instagram profile and released a collection of photos of the two together.
‘It’s your birthday, @theshando, so here’s a slideshow of some of my more outrageous antics (swipe right). Any recommendations for new ones?’ the Cruel Intentions actress wrote in the caption.
Shannen Doherty graciously replied in the comments section, joking, ‘We really are drinking a lot in these photographs!! ‘I adore you, S!!’
