The Shiba Inu that inspired the Internet-breaking ‘doge’ meme is fighting for her life. The 17-year-old Kabosu has been relevant for the past 12 years after a picture of her with a stunned reaction and crossed paws went viral. The image became a raging trend and there were thousands of fan pages dedicated to Kabosu. To legitimize her craze, a cryptocurrency called ‘Dogecoin’ was created by taking her as inspiration. However, it was revealed that the outgoing dog that ruled social media for more than a decade is suffering from leukemia. Moreover, her condition is not looking good.
In a series of Instagram posts, Kabosu’s owner Atsuko Sato explained that the dog is very ill. She wrote, “Pumpkin has been sick since Christmas Eve. Not drinking or eating from myself. Going to the hospital today. We enjoyed taking everyone’s Christmas pictures.” Sato revealed that Kabosu had not been eating well before Christmas. She was then diagnosed with acute cholangiohepatitis which a type of inflammation in the digestive system – inflammation of the bile ducts, gall bladder, and surrounding liver tissue.

She made another Instagram post. Sato wrote, “Had blood tests at the hospital today. The doctor called me this evening and told me I was in very dangerous condition. I didn’t expect it to be that bad, so I’m all white in my head. But Kabo-chan has shown us miracles many times before. There is no end to this. He shall show us again the miracle that gives hope to all. I believe so. Even though I was relaxing until the evening, at night, I was in the kitchen with a blanket on, a Toyota Yota came walking. Everyone’s prayers and power are definitely reaching the pumpkin. Thank you so much I’m sure he’ll get better so please keep watching the comeback of my pumpkin!!”
