Who Is Shoshanna Lonstein?
Shoshanna was born and brought up in Manhattan, New York. Her parents are Zach Lonstein and Betty Lonstein and belonged to a well-off family. She studied at Nightingale-Bamford School for Girls situated in Upper East Side, New York. Shoshanna graduated high school in 1993 when she was 17 years old and that was when she met Jerry Seinfeld.
It was reported that Shoshanna was hanging out in New York’s Central Park when Jerry came over to talk to her. Their conversation ended up with Jerry asking for her number which she agreed to share with him. A lot of people have criticised Jerry for seeking a much younger girl than his age as the two had 21 year age difference between them. However, Jerry denied knowing that Shoshanna was 17 when he spoke to her.
In an interview with Playboy in 1993, Jerry spoke about meeting Shoshanna.
“So anyway, I met this girl, Shoshanna. She’s a very sweet girl and she’s very pretty. I didn’t know how old she was. I knew she wasn’t 40. I took her to a basketball game and that was the whole thing.”
In another interview with Howard Stern, Jerry was asked if he was looking for young girls in Central Park. He responded-
“I didn’t realize she was so young. This is the only girl I ever went out with who was that young. I wasn’t dating her. We just went to a restaurant, and that was it.”
Jerry also stated that he and Shoshanna Lonstein started dating when she turned 18. Surprisingly, the press and his friends in the industry were very supportive of Jerry and Shoshanna’s relationship despite the age gap. His Seinfeld co-actor Julia Louis Seyfried was asked whether Jerry and Shoshanna’s relationship made her cringe, by New York Mag in 1998. She responded-
“No, it didn’t make me cringe. When he was in that relationship, it was a happy one for him. And she’s a terribly nice person, so I was in favor of it. Come on — who cares? There wasn’t anything wrong with it. I thought it was great.”
Shoshanna had joined George Washington University, however, she transferred to UCLA to be closer to Jerry in 1994. They dated for four years and eventually parted ways. When asked why they broke up, Shoshanna stated that the constant media attention and her homesickness made them fall apart.
