SNL Recap: Dakota Johnson Shares The Stage With Justin Timberlake
For the second time, Dakota Johnson hosted Saturday Night Live recently, where she reunited with her former co-star, Justin Timberlake, in Social Network, who took on the stage as the musical guest. The Fifty Shades Gray actor reminisced her moments working with the singer in 2010, where Johnson played the role of a Stanford student, while Timberlake played Sean Parker, the founder of Napster and the former president of Facebook.
Timberlake appeared on the stage right after Johnson mentioned him, and they shared some humourous jabs against each other. Dakota even mocked him about his “comeback” in the show after ten long years, following which Timberlake decided to “come back” with his sarcastic reply.
I’m so happy you chose my show for your comeback
-Dakota
It’s, uh… Hmm… Comeback… is that what we’re calling it? OK!
-Justin
Yeah! I mean comeback in a good way
-Dakota
Ah, OK. I see what this is. This is where we make a joke like, ‘First, he was bringing sexy back and now he’s bringing cumming back.’
-Justin
I wouldn’t phrase it like that
-Dakota
The pair was soon interrupted by none other than Jimmy Fallon, dressed as Barry Gibb from The Bee Gees. Dakota and Justin were supposed to hold a few sketches before Fallon announced his surprise appearance on the stage, however, the “plan” was canceled with Jimmy Fallon joking around on the stage.
Are we doing it? I’m here to say, ‘Break a leg!’ These are my normal clothes
-Jimmy Fallon
Dakota continued reminiscing about her time as an audience in the SNL 40th special; sitting near former President Donald Trump and mentioning a special shoutout to Taylor Swift.
The last time I hosted was right after the SNL 40th. I was actually in the audience for that special. Look at this photo, look at this collection of people: Sarah Palin, George Lucas, Steven Spielberg. And look who’s sitting right behind me, crazy to be standing so close to someone who would become the most powerful person in America.
Dakota Johnson carried out many sketches on the SNL show, including a satire of America’s Stanley Cup obsession and a Shark Tank parody with guest sharks Mark Cuban and Barbara Corcoran. Timberlake, alongside Jimmy Fallon, appeared in several skits, portraying themselves as Bee Gees members.
Dakota Johnson also took her audience on a tour of Studio 8H in one of the preview videos released previously. She departed with the audience in that preview video, again with a humourous take by professing her love for a basket of limes, relating to her viral tour to Architectural Digest in March 2020. She later admitted in an interview with Jimmy Fallon about her being allergic to citrus, in January 2021. Throughout her monologue, Johnson also made fun of the challenges she faces in interviews and discussed her upcoming movie, Madame Web.
