Justin Roiland, co-writer, executive director, and the voice artist of Rick and Morty, is in hot waters due to the allegations made against him. Adult Swim has officially severed all ties with him and replaced him for the upcoming Rick and Morty Season 7. Amidst the issues related to the release date, Justin Roiland’s voice has been replaced with a sound-alike.
Steven Levy confirmed in an interview,
“We are closing in on the end of our process of the recast, but I do want to say it’s gonna be great, it’s sound-alikes, the characters are the same characters. No change.”
Exclusive Wired Interview of Rick and Morty Voice Actor Justin Roiland
In an old interview with Roiland with Wired, the Rick and Morty creator revealed that he is trying to be “contactless” and is not used to social media apps like Instagram because it confuses him. Roiland has been accused of domestic violence and sending inappropriate texts to minors.
I try to be kind of contactless, I suppose. I mean I’m on instagram, but I don’t really look at my dms. I don’t really understand how that whole thing works. It’s just broken, I’m just gonna say it, my account is completely broken therefore I don’t think there is a way, and I kind of like that, you know maybe through my agency uta or mail a letter, I guess.
One of the popular questions about the series that was asked to Justin was why Rick and Morty Season 7 is taking so long to release. To that, Roiland admitted to several perfections that had to be executed.
That’s a long answer but I’ll just say the pursuit of perfection, um sometimes uh misguided pursuit of perfection, you know just a lot of changes happen.
Roiland also confirmed that the series was inspired by “Back to the Future” and talks about the possibilities of a crossover of “Solar Opposites” and Rick and Morty.
Yeah, you know I’m not gonna lie, I mean everyone knows like the original short I made, which is super gross, on purpose gross, I was trying to shock an audience so… and don’t confuse the art with the artist as Jack Black says! Cross over with Rick and Morty, I am not the person to ask, I don’t know how we would manage to do a crossover, you know being that there are two completely separate studios, and so on and so forth, so probably not, but I don’t know maybe.
When asked about how good Solar Opposites is, Roiland said “Comey’s subjective.”
Good uh well I guess that depends on who you ask you know. Uh beauty is in the eye of the beholder or whatever you know uh… comedy’s subjective. I think it’s really good, I love it, and especially where we’re going now where we’re kind of building things out we’re building the universe out we’re getting more serialized on the alien side of the stuff not just in the wall and that really excites the shot of me.
