Which Spider-Man Villains Appear During The Introduction Scene in ATS?
Spider-Man Across The Spider-Verse does a brilliant job of bringing together cinema and the comic world. The comic-style animation throughout the movie gives you the feeling of watching a comic book. There are comic-style sketches, dialogue boxes, of course, references that make it stand out from other comic-based movies.
In ATS, fans get to see a lot of details that are drawn from different Marvel comics. During the introduction of Miles Morales in the movie, he takes us through a quick montage of his backstory where we get to see his journey of becoming Spider-Man and fighting villains to safeguard his city.
One such scene gives us a few glimpses of some villains that haven’t yet been shown in any movies. They all are characters from the comics themselves. Here’s a breakdown of every villain Miles Morales’ Spider-Man fights at the beginning of the movie-
The Chameleon
We see a green creature being whacked by Morales who looks a bit like a lizard but is wearing a green suit with some patches here and there. He is the Chameleon. Spider-Man faced the Chameleon in his many adventures. An issue of the authorized True Life Tales of Spider-Man comic book series was based on one of these encounters. After Spider-Man’s demise, Miles Morales, his successor, battled the Chameleon in the first sixteen months of his superhero career.
The Hammerhead
Another purple-suited villain we see during the montage is the Hammerhead. Spider-Man was doing some research on Hammerhead regarding his ties to Kingpin. He had gone through a radical transformation, with a metal plate covering the majority of his head and a full beard. Miles Morales had to take him on during his initial sixteen months as Spider-Man.
The Beetle
During Miles Morales’ first year as the friendly neighbourhood superhero, one of the antagonists he captured was Beetle.
The Grizzly
Grizzly is one of the villains Miles Morales caught during his first year as the superhero. The villain resembled a bear with a brown furry suit/coat. However, there’s a human man wearing the suit/coat as we can see his face.
The Frog-Man
Another green-suited villain we see Morales facing off with is the Frog-Man. He is shown wearing an all-green suit with many pouches hanging from his waist which looks like some sort of weapon concealer.
The Spider-Slayer
Miles Morales faced a multitude of dangers in his first year and four months of being Spider-Man, one of which was the Spider-Slayer. He eventually eliminated it by using his revised venom blast, resulting in a city-wide power failure.
