Seinfeld is one of the most beloved sitcoms of its era. However Star Trek actor, Armin Shimerman, recently spoke of his experience as a guest star on the show which was not something Seinfeld fans would’ve expected.
Seinfeld Actors Made Star Trek Actor’s On-Set Experience Awful
The reality of the entertainment industry can often be starkly different, as revealed by a Star Trek actor’s recent experiences. The actor discussed his experiences in a frank and revealing interview, shedding light on the less-than-glamorous side of Hollywood.
“I hated them – hated them”, he exclaimed about his interactions with the actors from the sitcom Seinfeld. The Star Trek actor described his time on the set as humiliating and uncomfortable, a far cry from the jovial camaraderie commonly portrayed in behind-the-scenes footage. Shimerman stated that he expected the experience to be much more fun but it turned out to be a nightmare.
“Nobody said a word to me except cues. Nobody, nobody came up and started a conversation.”
Despite the success of the Seinfeld series, not everything was laughter and camaraderie on the set, particularly not for an unsuspecting Star Trek actor who had a rather unfortunate encounter with the NBC sitcom team. This unfortunate incident has highlighted the less-than-stellar behaviour of the celebrated Seinfeld cast, challenging the popular belief that all actors are more considerate and socially graceful than the average person.
According to Armin Shimerman, his experience with the sitcom show actors was filled with discomfort and humiliation, far from the professional and respectful environment he had anticipated. His interactions with the Seinfeld team were marked by a distinct lack of courtesy and respect, a far cry from the camaraderie and supportiveness often associated with the acting profession.
“They were non-commutative, ugly, non-responsive, what’s the word? Insular.”
Shimerman spoke about one incident in particular where he was sitting with the cast on a couch while the crew was resetting the scene. He recalled how the cast ignored him completely, and Jerry Seinfeld and Julia Louis-Dreyfus were having conversations with each other while he was sitting amongst them.
The three of us are sitting there, it’s Christmas time. The two of them are talking about their Christmas plans and what they’re going to do for their vacation and and all this stuff and they talk for half an hour. I’m between them, right here, never once, not once did they say what are you going to do? Never once did they say a pardon us for talking around you. Never once. It was as though I wasn’t there.”
Which Episode Did Armin Shimerman Appear In?
Armin Shimerman made his first and only appearance on Seinfeld in the episode titled “The Caddy.” This marked the 122nd episode of the series, airing on January 25, 1996. It was a collaborative creation by Gregg Kavet and Andy Robin, under the directorial guidance of Andy Ackerman. Shimerman portrayed the character of Stan, a golf caddy beloved by Kramer. Stan’s sage advice on golf considerably helped Kramer to enhance his game.
However, Kramer’s decision to seek Stan’s counsel in a legal case goes awry. The case involves Elaine’s old high school friend, Sue Ellen Mischke, a car accident, and a bra. Stan’s ill-advised suggestion that Sue Ellen should try on the bra in question, draws parallels to the notorious “glove” query from the OJ Simpson Trial. This misstep costs Kramer the case.
Predictably, Stan’s legal blunder leads to his downfall. Kramer likely dismisses him as a caddy, as Stan vanishes from the series after this episode.
