Star Wars fans have not one but three reasons to rejoice with the likely return of Mark Hamill, Hayden Christensen, and Natalie Portman. Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker was last seen in The Mandalorian and we saw Hayden Christensen reprising his role as Anakin Skywalker in Obi-Wan Kenobi.
New Star Wars Movie To See Hamill & Christensen
With the announcement of Daisy Ridley reprising her role as Rey Skywalker in the next project, there are reports of Luke and Anakin Skywalker also making an appearance. While both Mark Hamill and Hayden Christensen’s characters are dead, there’s no reason for them to rise from the dead as they’ve done plenty of other times.
Lucasfilm executive Kathleen Kennedy confirmed that the upcoming Daisy Ridley’s Rey movie will take place 15 years after The Rise of the Skywalker. She also added that the movie will see Rey attempting to rebuild the Jedi Order and possibly failing which will make complete sense for Luke and Anakin Skywalker to make a comeback. The movie will be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy who has won two Academy Awards for Documentary Shorts. The scriptwriting is credited to Steven Knight who’s known for his work in Peaky Blinders.
In an interview after the Star Wars Celebration earlier this year, Kathleen Kennedy said that the Star Wars movies are about feeling.
“The lesson I take from Star Wars in general is that it’s a feeling that poeple want to return to. That’s what we work so hard to try to recreate.”
“It was very important for him (George Lucas) that these stories had meaning, I agree with that. And I think finding passionate filmmakers, who have something to say, are going to give those stories meaning.”
Will Natalie Portman Return As Padme?
While promoting her all-new docuseries Angel City, with GQ, Natalie Portman answered some fan questions regarding Star Wars. Angel City follows the story of professional women’s soccer team named Angel City Football Club (ACFC). The docu-series is about the Los Angeles-based soccer team and their performances on and off the pitch. The football club was founded in 2020 and Natalie Portman is one of the co-founders. ACFC is also the largest professional sports group having a majority of female ownerships. While responding to a fan’s comment regarding Angel City, Natalie shared how much she loves supporting women’s soccer.
“I love in soccer that one player’s goal is a win for the entire team. And I think that is such an amazing model for women where we’ve so often been socialised to be pitted against each other. And so that kind of win for all mindset is incredible.”
“And then also, it’s the most popular sport in the world. In the US we have the best female players in the world.”
When a fan questioned whether there’s any chance of Natalie Portman’s Padme returning to Star Wars, the actress gave an interesting response.
“I have no information on this. No one’s ever asked me to return, but I’m open to it.”
This led fans to start theorizing about Padme’s return to the Star Wars series. Many fans wanted are hoping to see Anakin and Padme reunite. It’s hard to tell whether Portman was hinting whether something is already in the works or she would really love to reprise her role. However, fans have already started to call out Disney+ to consider reviving her character.
