Steve Buscemi has given the reason why he’s in so many Adam Sandler movies. And it’s hilarious.
The 65-year-old actor has done a lot of work in both movies and TV shows going all the way back to the 1980s. Adam Sandler is in many of these projects.
Since the 1990s, Sandler has been one of the most well-known names in comedy. He has also made a lot of hit movies, such as Happy Gilmore, Just Go With It, and The Waterboy.
This is why the 56-year-old from Brooklyn was given the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor last month.
The Mark Twain Prize, named after the humorist who wrote “Huckleberry Finn,” was given by the Kennedy Center. It was given to Sandler at a gala that featured some of the biggest names in comedy, such as Chris Rock, Ben Stiller, Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Aniston, and, of course, Steve Buscemi.
Sandler’s movies often have a large group of actors, so it’s not unusual for him to bring back old co-stars.
Sandler and Buscemi have worked together in the movies Airheads, Billy Madison, The Wedding Singer, Big Daddy, Mr. Deeds, I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry, Grown Ups, Hotel Transylvania, Grown Ups 2, The Cobbler, Hotel Transylvania 2, The Ridiculous 6, Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation, and Hubie Halloween.
When it was time to roast Sandler, the actor from Reservoir Dogs didn’t hold back. He said he didn’t know how many people had spoken before him that night because “it all blends together, kind of like Adam’s movies.”
I was a serious actor before I met you, man! I did edgy indies. Have you ever tried that? I’m not talking about talking about playing yourself in Unedited Gems,
he said, referencing Sandler’s acclaimed thriller Uncut Gems.
The whole time I was watching it I was thinking, ‘Stay in your lane, Waterboy.
Steve Buscemi’s speech turned more serious when he thanked Sandler for helping him out in the industry.
Steve Buscemi said:
He does this for all his friends, he does this for so many people, all of the guys you came up with, they’re either writing, or directing, or producing, or acting in your films.
I love it when you scream s**t at me off camera, like funny things to say, and I just try to say them like you and then when I hear you laugh at the funny thing you told me to say I’m in heaven. I love it.
Steve Buscemi added:
For me, the best part of working with Adam is just getting to hang out with you, man. Congratulations, Adam. You are deservedly getting this award for your legendary career and knowing you, your talent and your big heart, the best is yet to come.
