Revitalizing a Classic: New Spirits Join Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Despite the end of its DLC releases, ‘Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’ is far from stagnant. Nintendo has infused the game with fresh content through a new Spirit event, celebrating some of its biggest recent releases across various series. This addition not only revitalizes the game but also hints at more content to come. The recent additions include characters from ‘Pikmin 4,’ ‘Xenoblade Chronicles 3,’ ‘The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom,’ and ‘Splatoon 3.’
The New Entrants: Celebrating Nintendo’s Latest Hits
The new Spirits added are a diverse bunch:
- Oatchi from ‘Pikmin 4’
- Noah and Mio from ‘Xenoblade Chronicles 3’
- Rauru from ‘The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’
- The Deep Cut trio (Shiver, Frye, and Big Man) from ‘Splatoon 3’
This limited-time Spirit event, announced by Nintendo of America, gives players the chance to encounter these Spirits more frequently on the Spirit Board. Victories in these events also yield extra gold, adding an extra layer of incentive for players.

Continued Relevance in the Gaming World
The addition of new content in 2024 is significant considering the game’s release years ago and the last major content update occurring roughly two years prior. While amiibo releases have continued, game-specific updates had slowed down, making this event a welcome surprise for the gaming community.

Prospects of Future Content
Anticipation Builds for More Updates
Despite some players voicing their wishlists for additional Spirits, the overall reception indicates excitement. A past tweet from the Japanese Smash Bros. series account in December 2023 hinted at “the first new Spirits event” of four planned for 2024. This strongly suggests that players can look forward to three more waves of new content, keeping the game dynamic and engaging.
