Makoto Shinkai’s Suzume movie has crossed the ₹10 Crore(about US$1,210,393) mark at the Indian Box Office.
Suzume movie crossed ₹10 Crore surpassing Jujutsu Kaisen
Overtaking Jujutsu Kaisen 0, the Suzume movie is currently the 9th highest-grossing Japanese movie in the nation. It outperformed Your Name and Weathering With You, Makoto’s two prior blockbuster successes.
Director Makoto Shinkai was welcomed at the premiere on April 21 by PVR Pictures in association with CoMix Wave Films and the Japanese Film Festival India. The Suzume movie, also named “Suzume no Tojimari,” was released in Hindi and Japanese versions with English subtitles at the Indian theatres.
The movie was first screened early on April 9 in Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, and Bangalore. On April 16, a second round of early screenings took place again in Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, and this time, Kolkata as well.
Director Makato had a hearty discussion with the fans about anime and the Indian movies he loved to watch. In an interview with India Today, he revealed,
“I really enjoy Indian movies. I watched RRR, and even Baahubali was also a big hit in Japan. Whenever I see an Indian movie, I learn. What do I learn? That they are making so much effort to make it a joyful experience and an extravaganza. So, when somebody comes in, they make sure they have a joyful experience and this is not something you even see in Hollywood movies.”
Will there be Suzume movie Part 2?
Makato Shinkai never made a part 2 for any of his movies. He always made sure the protagonists somehow crossed each other’s paths in the end. The same pattern was followed in Your Name and Weathering With You. While Weathering With You was the sequel to Your Name, we can surely expect Director Makato creates his magic again with the sequel to the Suzume movie.
With the beautiful OSTs, stunning animation, and an outstanding storyline, the Suzume movie has already won over the audiences and especially the fans who religiously follow Makato Shinkai’s works.
