Sylvester Stallone’s action franchise movies, The Expendables, was released on Netflix last month, but all three films are leaving on October 4. Together with a sizable cast of action movie legends, Sylvester Stallone gives one of the most intense action performances of the twenty-first century in the movie.
The Expendables was first premiered in 2010 and launched a franchise that spans four feature films, the most recent of which will soon be released in theatres.
Did you know that Sylvester Stallone not only acted but also co-wrote and directed the film? This was his first time directing a major ensemble piece and his 8th director credit on a feature film overall. Although the cast of the movie is one of its main selling points, Sylvester Stallone first tried to expand the cast by contacting a number of well-known action stars from earlier decades.
Starring in the movie are professional wrestler “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, UFC fighter Randy Couture, Jason Statham, Jet Li, David Zayas, Mickey Rourke, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, and Terry Crews. Many of the stunts and actions were performed by the cast themselves, resulting in Stallone sustaining over 14 mild injuries over the course of the shoot.
Jean-Claude Van Damme, Wesley Snipes, Steven Seagal, Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Ray Liotta, Ben Kingsley, Kurt Russell, and rapper-turned-actor Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson are a few more actors Sylvester Stallone considered for The Expendables. Additional prominent action stars would continue to appear in subsequent films in the series, notably Jean-Claude Van Damme, who played Jean Vilain, the major antagonist in the second movie.
Although the three actors had been friends in real life for many years prior to the project, The Expendables is the first time Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Bruce Willis have been on screen together in a significant motion picture.
The action star trio has even worked together as a trio as business partners for the Planet Hollywood network of eateries and casinos since 1991. Due to his duties as the 38th Governor of California at the time, which required him to put his acting career on hold, Schwarzenegger’s appearance in the movie is somewhat brief.
About The Expendables
Barney Ross, played by Sylvester Stallone, is the leader of a group of highly skilled mercenaries in The Expendables. The squad is recruited to free a number of hostages held captive by a band of Somali pirates on board a sizable commercial vessel, but they immediately learn that a former coworker has betrayed them. The crew accepts a job that requires them to travel to South America to overthrow a violent dictator.
However, it soon becomes apparent that the dictator is supported by an ex-CIA agent who uses the brutal rule as a front for his own operations. The Expendables are forced to shoot, stab, and explode their way out of danger while averting a global geopolitical disaster that is much beyond their capabilities since they are caught in a web of lies and international fraud.
Expend4bles (also known as The Expendables 4), Arriving In Theatres Soon
