If you’ve been wondering, “Is Target open on Thanksgiving?” No is the official and easy answer.
So if you need a bunch of candles at the last minute on Thanksgiving, you’ll have to go elsewhere. Or, you could wait until 7 a.m. on Black Friday, the busiest shopping day of the year at Target. (That’s the earliest the stores will open, but you should check with your local Target to find out its exact hours on Thanksgiving.)
But on Thanksgiving Day in 2022, Target will be closed. Target will never again be open on Thanksgiving Day (for now). Last year, the retail giant announced it would continue to close its doors on Thanksgiving every year moving forward.
What started as a temporary measure driven by the pandemic is now our new standard—one that recognizes our ability to deliver on our guests’ holiday wishes both within and well beyond store hours,
Target CEO Brian Cornell wrote in a statement.
In 2020, during the coronavirus pandemic, Thanksgiving was the first time in 10 years that Target was closed. But then the big store decided to stay there for good. It also started giving discounts for the holiday shopping season before Black Friday instead of waiting until that day.
Target isn’t the first big store to do this, and it likely won’t be the last. Even though the change to Walmart’s Thanksgiving hours isn’t as significant, the company has been closed the last two Thanksgiving and says it will do so again this year.
Yes, Target will be closed on Thanksgiving in 2022 and every year after that. Stay home on Thanksgiving Day and watch the parade. And if you’re too cozy to even make it out for Black Friday, that’s fine too. Target is offering weeklong Black Friday deals now through November 25, with new savings debuting each Sunday. And there are always those Target Cyber Monday deals.
