A video of a Utah teen who locked himself and his sister in a bedroom to avoid seeing their father again has gone viral. Ty Larson, who is 15 years old, has more than 50,000 followers on TikTok, where he posts under the handle @stupid_flipper. Ty says that his father, Brent Joel Larson, sexually abused him and Brynlee, who is 12. The courts are trying to get them back together, but Ty is doing his best to stay away.
Ty is making a name for himself on social media by posting about his allegedly abusive father. In one video, he says he locked himself in his bedroom to stay away from their father. Despite what they say, the courts say that the children must be given back to their father. A source says that judge Derek Pullan gave the police permission to use “reasonable force” to get the children out of their home. This included breaking down locked doors.
Ty says that his father hurt him until he was 10 years old.
Ty says in a series of TikTok videos that his father, Brent Larson, hurt him physically, sexually, and emotionally from the time he was 3 years old until he was 10 years old. When he told about the abuse, he was taken away from his biological father’s house.
He says he is almost 16 years old and has been in court for almost five years. Ty claims to have been
interviewed by DCFS thousands of times it feels like, cops, police officers, anything, I’ve been interviewed by them,
he says in one now-viral video.
Reunification is a process that the courts want Ty, his sister, and their father to go through.
Ty says that the courts want his family to go through the reunification process so that they can get to know their biological father. He thinks that as a teenager, his ideas about where he lives should be taken into account.
My own word does not matter and they don’t believe my truth,
he says in the clip.
In December 2022, the police tried to take the children away from their mother.
A report says that in December, police went to the mother’s house to try to take the children away. Still, they decided not to break down the door because of the “potentially explosive situation,” which was found in court records.
When the police asked for more information, they were told to use force, but they haven’t gone back to the house to get the kids.
The father of the children was found to have hurt them.
According to a source, the Utah Division of Child and Family Services found in 2018 that Brent Larson did abuse his children and that the abuse was “severe and chronic.”
Brent Larson couldn’t be alone with his kids, and he only got to see them a few times a month while being watched. The news outlet reported that there was also a 150-day restraining order that stopped him from having contact with the children at the time.
Authorities are investigating new allegations.
The Salt Lake County District Attorney’s office is investigating new allegations of abuse but declined comment on the charges. In another case, prosecutors didn’t have enough proof against Brent Larson in February 2021, so the case was put on hold. Brent Larson’s attorney, Ron Wilkinson, says the claims are unfounded.
There have been similar false claims — repeatedly, for years. The stories continue to change and expand each time — always about the same events,
Wilkinson told ProPublica.
Jessica Zhart, the children’s mother, is being accused of brainwashing the kids and causing “parental alienation” because she lets the kids stay at her house.
The family fears for their lives.
Ty alleges that his father said he would kill his mother and Brynlee if he told anyone about the abuse, as reported by a source. Ty says that he is in the room to remain safe and that his mother passes the children’s food through a hole in the bathroom.
According to a court report, the judge thoroughly reviewed the evidence in the case before ruling on reunification. That can’t happen until there’s a hearing.
Ty claims that
The court system isn’t trying to save us, Nobody’s trying to keep us safe.
