A lawsuit has been filed against Netflix’s ‘The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ for using a statue that represents Baphomet, the symbolic deity. However, you would be surprised to know that the Church of Satan is not behind this lawsuit.
As reported previously, a political activism and non-theistic religious group was the one to threaten Netflix and eventually filed a lawsuit against it. The lawsuit is filed for damages amounting to $150 million.
The lawsuit filed over the use of statue claims,
Defendants misappropriated the TST Baphomet Children in ways implying the monument stands for evil. Among other morally repugnant actions, the Sabrina Series’ evil antagonists engage in cannibalism and forced-worship of a patriarchal deity.
The Church of Satan wants to make it clear beforehand that they are behind the lawsuit and do not have any issues concerning ‘The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’. They went ahead to say that this is just a PR stunt.
Reverend Joel Ethan said that a lot of people are taking them to be behind the lawsuit, the Church wants to clarify that they have no association with The Satanic Temple. TST is an entirely different political activist group that is not related to Satanism which was founded by the Church fifty years back. The Church has clarified previously as well that they don’t have any issues with the show.
It was also said that the statue used in the show is the one that was built for the show with reference to the TST version along with other public domain versions. TST has done several childish PR stunts before as well and the Church does not want to be associated with it at all.
It’s distressing on the grounds that you have to worry about that association being made where people will see your monument and not know which preceded the other.
