The unification ministry has revealed that around 1,000 of the defectors in North Korea have reportedly had their personal and private data leak after a computer at the resettlement center of South Korea was hacked.
One of the computers located in the center of the state-run was reported found out be infected by a deliberately harmful code. The unification ministry has also said that the hack is regarded as the first of the large-scale information leak which involves the defectors of North Korea.
The cyber attack’s origin, as well as the identity of the hacker, has not yet been confirmed. The resettlement center of the North Gyeongsang is one of the 25 institutes which is run by the unification ministry with an intent of helping out 32,000 defectors for adjusting to the lifestyle of South Korea.
The government of North Korea doesn’t yet know the identities of most of the citizens have defected. Some of the defected people are also considered as “missing persons” or then also would have been registered a dead person.
Around 997 of the defectors of North Korea have reportedly been informed about their names along with their addresses and birth dates which might have been leaked. Nevertheless, it isn’t clear as to what the impact will it bring to the life of the defectors.
A few of the analysts have come forward to state some of the concerns related to the leak which might endanger the family member of the defectors who are currently present in North Korea. The Country Director of South Korea, Sokeel Park in North Korea along with an international NGO which is currently assisting the defectors of North Korea has said that the hack is going to make other defectors to fell not much safe who are presently residing in South Korea.
