Will The Last Kingdom Season 6 get a renewal? Given its vivid battle scenes, real-life incidents, and fast-paced plot, it’s not surprising that fans are already asking when The Last Kingdom season 6 will be released. Here are all the details you need to know for The Last Kingdom Season 6.
The Last Kingdom Season 6: What to Expect?
The Saxon Stories novel series by Bernard Cornwell served as the inspiration for the British historical fiction television series The Last Kingdom. The television series, created by Stephen Butchard made its debut on BBC Two on October 10, 2015. Netflix co-produced the show’s second season. After being purchased by Netflix in 2018, the show was produced by them alone for three more seasons. The show’s five seasons and 46 total episodes came to an end on March 9, 2022.
The last season was adapted from Cornwell’s Warriors of the Storm and The Flame Bearer, along with parts of the eleventh book, War of the Wolf. Of course, there were a few distinct modifications just like in the third and fourth seasons of The Last Kingdom.
At the time, the goal was for Netflix to adapt the first 10 Cornwell books at a rate of two every season. However, by the time the television series ended, Cornwell had published three further books, bringing Uhtred’s saga to a close with War Lord in 2020.
The trilogy, which takes place during the years 917-920 is all about the opposing lines of succession in Mercia and Wessex, the war with the last of the Vikings in Northumbria, led by Uhtred’s son-in-law Sigtryggr, and Uhtred’s return to Bebbanburg to achieve his destiny.
On March 9, 2022, Netflix released all 10 episodes of the fifth and final season.
The Last Kingdom Season 6: Release Update
Unfortunately, Season 5 was the final season of The Last Kingdom. As of now, Netflix will not be producing any more seasons of The Last Kingdom. However, fans need not be disappointed as a sequel film “The Seven Kings Must Die” has been released on Netflix on 14th April 2023. This film is based on Cornwell’s thirteenth and final novel of The Saxon Stories novel series, War Lord which also borrows certain ideas from the previous book Sword of Kings.
