Netflix made it official last week that there will be no third season for The Punisher. However, it now appears that The Punisher Season 3 might just air on rival platforms such as Hulu or FX. Latest reports indicate that there are a number of companies willing to work on these projects.
Not only The Punisher, but other programs such as The Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage (collectively known as ‘The Defenders’) have been canceled by Netflix. Even though there’s a #SaveDaredevil campaign going on, it is unlikely that we see these shows on Netflix again.
The Punisher Season 3 to be picked up by Hulu or FX?
Reports now indicate that The Punisher Season 3 (along with the other shows from the Marvel universe) is likely to be picked up by Hulu. Moreover, FX has also expressed intent in producing these shows. While nothing is certain as of now – but we might actually get to see them soon! Not all hope is lost.
If Hulu gets hold of these shows (especially The Punisher Season 3), the company would be able to strengthen its position as a Netflix rival even more.
The Punisher Season 3 on Hulu/FX: Production Hurdles
The biggest problem that these shows of the Defenders universe face is that there is a two-year restriction on Marvel from doing anything on these characters. However, once the two year period lapses, we may see The Punisher Season 3. It will be interesting to see if these shows get picked up and which platform finally airs them.
