Joe Rogan On Ronda Rousey’s MMA Career
Amid rumours of Ronda Rousey’s potential exit from WWE, fans have been revisiting Joe Rogan’s comments about the former UFC champion. In a clip from one of his podcast episodes from 2018, Joe Rogan can be heard stating that Ronda “deserved exactly what she got,” for losing to Amanda Nunes and Holly Holm and quitting UFC.
“I think she really cemented her legacy as one of the greatest Women’s MMA champions, even a pioneer but I also think that women’s MMA has evolved so fast, that within a brief time she was running s**t, the sports passed her by,
“The one that I was always worried about with her was Amanda, because I was like Amanda Nunes had a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and nasty hands.”
“My thought was that Ronda, although she was developing good striking skills, she’s known for Judo in her arm bars that’s her big thing. And my thought was that if [the fight] was gonna down [with Amanda], [the winner] would be Amanda because [she] hits so f****** hard. And then when she came back and immediately fought for the world title against Amanda, she needed a different camp. She needed a rveamping of her approach, she needed a lot of things.”
Rogan also mentioned how Ronda got sucked into the glitz and glam of Hollywood and lost sight of who she really was. He added-
“She got sucked into all the Hollywood b******t. They were putting her in movies and TV shows and she was on different talk shows. She was a superstar. Now, she’s a WWE Superstar, which is a different kind of superstar.”
“The traps of Hollywood are always there for any superstar athlete, especially fighters, and we’ve seen it throughout history.”
In another conversation with American MMA fighter, Cat Zingano, Rogan mentioned how the women’s MMA has evolved over the years. He discussed how if Ronda were to make a return to UFC, she will need to learn a lot.
“There’s a lesson to be learned and what happened to her. In terms of like all of the distractions, like Hollywood came calling and there were scripts and talks about Roadhouse and all this other s*** that was going on other than fighting.”
“Women’s MMA has gotten so high level, so quickly. I’m sure you saw Amanda’s last fight with Raquel Pennington, like holy s***! So that was a f***** high-level performance from her.”
