The MCM Comic Con held in Birmingham last week may have revealed some disappointing news for The Umbrella Academy fans.
The show’s cast was seen at the event on Sunday. When asked whether the drama series will be returning for a second season, the stars revealed that they have no information whatsoever.
Umbrella Academy star on season 2 renewal
On being asked if the series will make a comeback, Emmy Raver-Lampman, who plays Allison Hargreeves on the show said, “I wish! Call up Netflix.” The remarks come as a blow to hordes of eager fans hopeful for a quick second installment release.
Emmy’s words also shut down several rumours floating on the internet. There have been numerous reports in the past week that Netflix has already renewed The Umbrella Academy for a second season.
Although speculations about the second season of The Umbrella Academy may be conjecture at this point. The cast and crew are astounded at the love the drama has received from the audience.
Tom Hopper, who plays Luther Hargreeves, said,
“It’s great to see the response from the fans, because that’s a telling sign.”
The Umbrella Academy season 2 release date
Steve Blackman, showrunner of The Umbrella Academy, stated last month that it takes them 18 months to film a season. So it’s certain that the show will not be returning with a season 2 any time soon.
“It takes us 18 months to do a season. The goal is not to diverge. Not everything translates from the graphic novel page to the screen,” he said.
He further added, “The goal is not to just go off in our own direction.”
Blackman also expressed hopes of renewing the show for second, third and fourth seasons. He added that being a streaming service, ‘having a great ending is important for Netflix’.
The Umbrella Academy Season 1 is streaming on Netflix now.
