The Winds of Winter has to be one of the most awaited books of all time. It has been 8 years since the last book in A Song of Ice and Fire series was released.
And since then, the showrunners have managed to finish filming the entire show. With the premiere of the last season already behind us, it is high time the book was released.

But fans are not the only ones who are frustrated and angry at the unimaginable delay. George RR Martin has expressed similar sentiments of disappointment with himself, considering he had a five books heads up against the producers of the show, and he still lost.
Martin disappointed with himself
In a recent interview, Martin said that he is not happy that the show managed to overtake the novel series. The author told Anderson Cooper,
“I published a fifth book “A Dance With Dragons” in 2011 when the series was just going on the air, so I was like five books ahead.”
He also said that he was certain he would be able to finish the entire Game of Thrones book series before the show.
“I was completely confident that I would have the entire series finished. ‘Winds of Winter’ and ‘A Dream of Spring’ would be out before they got to them.”
He expressed a desire to have seen the book series end before the show. But things did not go as planned, according to Martin. He also added that the ending of the show will be quite similar to how things wrap up in A Drea, of Spring, the last book in the novel series.
Does that mean that the GoT show will be a spoiler for the books? It certainly appears so.
Picks up speed on The Winds of Winter
In another interview, Martin addressed fans anger with him regarding the delay in releasing The Winds of Winter.
“I know there are a lot of people out there who are very angry with me that ‘Winds of Winter’ isn’t finished. And I’m mad about that myself.”
There is some hope for the GoT book fans after all since Martin seems to have overcome his writer’s block.
“Writing on ‘The Winds of Winter’ has been going very well lately, so knock wood. It’ll be done when it’s done.”
Though there is no confirmed release date set for The Winds of Winter, fingers crossed he finishes it before the end of this year.
