The Winds of Winter release date could arrive sooner than you think as George R R Martin has given new updates on the book. The 71-year-old author has been working on the sixth book in “A Song of Ice and Fire” series for the last 9 years and the book is yet to be finished. Fans are kind of frustrated at this point given how Game of the TV show has ended but Martin is yet to come up with The Winds of Winter book.
GRRM promised his fans last year that he will complete the book by July 2020 and will have a copy of TWOW in his hand when he arrives at the WorldCon this year. But the recent Coronavirus pandemic has canceled the event and it will be now live-streamed instead. Although, that’s good news is George R R Martin can finish “The Winds of Winter” way before the deadline due to being in self-isolation.
Martin’s Promise for The Winds of Winter
George R R Martin made a promise that he will have Winds of Winter in his hands when he arrives in New Zealand at the Worldcon this year. The fantasy writer has broken many such promises before so he even assured that if he fails to do so, fans can lock him up in a cabin until he finishes the book.
However, the promise holds no validity now given the entertainment event itself has canceled due to Coronavirus outbreak all over the world. Martin is not making any guest appearance at Worldcon 2020 so there’s no issue of coming up with TWOW manuscript. Still, it doesn’t mean that George will stop writing the book as he has now plenty of time to work on The Winds of Winter.
The Winds of Winter will be Finished Early due to Coronavirus Lockdown
The Winds of Winter can be finished sooner than expected as the author is spending more time writing down the book. George R R Martin revealed that he is in self-isolation and only accompanied by one of his staff members over the fear of Covid-19 infection. The author said that he is spending more time in Westeros than the real world as he has no distractions.

Martin is working on The Winds of Winter and writing at a tremendous speed. In the words of the author himself, “If there is a silver lining in these clouds, this will give me more time to finish ‘WINDS OF WINTER.” It simply means that fans could get hands on the next ASOIAF book earlier than the expected release date.
