The release of The Witcher: Blood Origin, the first live-action spinoff set in the fantastical world inspired by Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels, had its fair share of ups and downs on Netflix.
One topic that sparked numerous discussions among fans was the prophecy surrounding Ciri’s ancestry. Showrunner Lauren Hissrich sheds light on this theory in an interview with EW, providing valuable insights.
Key Reveals in Blood Origin
During the interview with EW, Hissrich delves into two significant reveals at the end of Blood Origin, which appeared to foreshadow future events in the main Witcher series.
The first revelation revolves around the prophecy shared by the time-traveling storyteller Seanchai and the elven prophet Ithlinne in the finale: “The Lark’s seed will carry forth, the first note in a song that ends all times, and one of her blood shall sing the last.”
For those who may be unfamiliar with Blood Origin, or need a refresher, Éile, the main character of the show, is nicknamed “The Lark.”
By the conclusion of the series, Éile is pregnant with the child of the first proto-witcher, Fjall, leading to the realization that this lineage holds significance in relation to the prophecy.
Dispelling the Theory
Many viewers assumed that this prophecy directly connected to Princess Ciri, whose Elder Blood plays a vital role in the main Witcher series, and who is also the subject of another of Ithlinne’s prophecies.
However, Hissrich now debunks this theory, stating, “The prophecy I actually think is not as clear cut as many people think. It does seem to immediately say Ciri is related to Éile, and that is not the case.
So we can dispel that rumor right now. That is a little hidden gem for us, and we have other things brewing with that.”
This revelation raises the question of who the prophecy actually refers to, if not Ciri. Speculation leads to a few immediate candidates. The fact that Éile is a bard, coupled with the prophecy’s mention of a song, suggests that the bard Jaskier may be connected to Éile and Fjall’s lineage.
It remains uncertain how this revelation might impact Jaskier’s future or how his song could potentially “end all times” if he is indeed the chosen one.
Another possibility is Geralt, who may have inherited some of Fjall’s skills and Witcher abilities. Of course, it could also involve Yennefer or an entirely different character—perhaps even Dara!
While fans may be eager for answers in Season 3, Hissrich advises patience, noting that these questions “don’t have to necessarily be answered right then for our viewers and our audience.”
She reassures fans that the decision to withhold certain information was made for a reason and that the answers will be unveiled in due course.
As we await the release of Volume 2 of The Witcher Season 3 on July 27, there’s much anticipation surrounding the unfolding narrative of Ciri’s ancestry. Stay tuned to Hiptoro for the latest updates on the world of The Witcher.
