Overview
They Cloned Tyrone is an upcoming sci-fi movie starring John Boyega, Teyonah Parris, and Jamie Foxx. Originally intended for a 2022 release, the movie disappeared from release schedules for reasons unknown. But the good news is that it will finally be released later this year.
Plot
The movie is described as “a pulpy, sci-fi mystery caper in which an unlikely trio investigates a series of eerie events, alerting them to a nefarious conspiracy lurking directly beneath their hood.”
The story revolves around Fontaine, a neighborhood drug dealer who is shot dead by his rival Isaac, but wakes up unharmed the next morning. Along with his friends Slick Charles and Yo-Yo, Fontaine begins to investigate the incident and discovers a vast underground complex where a government-backed lab is performing experiments on the local Black population. He realizes that he is an artificial clone controlled by Nixon and decides to stand up against the white institutional overlords for the sake of his neighborhood.
The movie seems to be as much a commentary on the Black experience as it is a sci-fi movie, making it an intriguing watch for those interested in both genres. The script was part of 2019’s Black List.
